Bambi

MEET BAMBI!

Bambi is a Staffy X female puppy, born on early June 2026, who came into WAGS care at around seven weeks of age.

Before arriving in rescue, Bambi had already experienced several changes of home. A young couple took her in and quickly recognised that she needed some additional support, so they reached out to WAGS for help. They chose to remain involved in her journey and became her foster family.

When Bambi entered care, she was approximately 3kg, covered in fleas and carrying a significant worm burden. Her foster family had already provided her with a much-needed bath, puppy essentials and a safe place to settle. Since then, Bambi has received treatment for her worms and fleas, has started her vaccination course and has been steadily gaining weight.

Her Personality

Bambi is a curious, playful and affectionate puppy who is becoming more confident as she grows.

She has a very healthy appetite, enjoys her meals and loves following her foster family around. Toys are a particular favourite, and she is always happy to find something to investigate, chew or play with.

Like most puppies her age, Bambi is still learning about the world and can be enthusiastic when she plays. She is currently working through a normal puppy nipping stage and is learning that hands and feet aren't toys. Her foster family are helping her with redirection, boundaries and appropriate play.

She's also developing a wonderfully cheeky personality - including her current interpretation of how a puppy bed should be used. Despite graduating to a bigger bed after outgrowing her first one, Bambi can still occasionally be found sleeping with half her body hanging out of it!

Training & Skills

Bambi is making steady progress with her basic puppy skills.

• Toilet training: progressing well. Her foster family are learning to recognise her signals and routine, while Bambi continues learning where she is meant to go.

• Puppy manners: currently working on appropriate play, reducing puppy nipping and learning boundaries.

• Handling and routine: settling well into a foster home environment and becoming familiar with everyday household routines.

• Confidence: continuing to build confidence and curiosity in a safe, controlled environment.

• Play: very toy-motivated and enjoys interactive play.

  
  

There is still plenty for Bambi to learn, as expected for a puppy her age. Her world has intentionally remained fairly small while she completes her vaccination course, and we're looking forward to seeing more of her personality emerge as she's able to safely experience more of the world.

Bambi's next vaccination is due at the end of August, after which she will be able to safely begin exploring more of the world and experiencing new environments.

As she grows, we'll learn more about her individual personality, energy levels, interests and what type of home will suit her best.

For now, Bambi is exactly what you'd expect from a young puppy - playful, curious, food-motivated, affectionate, occasionally cheeky and still very much a work in progress. 🐾
